A wine created by our grand-parents, Marie Louise and Alphonse Mayard, who were the first to adopt the bottled sales format. Their sales ledgers from 1923 attest to the flourishing state of their business.
A blend from various terroirs of the appellation, Clos du Calvaire is unpretentious—a pure expression of a true Châteauneuf du Pape, aged in the vat to preserve the authenticity of its predominant grape variety, grenache. We bottle this wine earlier than any of other our yearly vintages, after ageing for around 12 months.
This is a fine traditional wine with an aroma of red berries and an intense liquorice bouquet, elegantly structured, full-bodied and rich on the palate.
