The Estate

At the end of the 19th Century, Gratien Mayard was hesitating about leaving for the United States after the phylloxera crisis; but the love affair with his native land proved too overpowering. Replanting his vineyard vine by vine, he played his part in making his successors the proud owners of a leading domaine (estate). Today the Mayard family and its team take care of running and modernising the domaine.
The vineyard covers 43 hectares of vines that include two large plots: a 21-hectare area situated south of the Châteauneuf du Pape appellation, at Grand Coulet, and an 8-hectare area located to the east, on the famous Crau plateau. The entire estate covers around thirty parcels of land spread across highly diverse terroirs, some of them planted over a century ago.
Determined to follow a policy of Agriculture Raisonnée, or sustainable farming that focuses on green issues, priority is given to expressing terroir by controlling yields.
Found in the heart of the village of Châteauneuf du Pape, Vignobles Mayard will be delighted to greet you in their cellars. When visiting our barrel cellar, you´ll discover an old château´s restored stone vaults, a splendid 17th Century home.
